Risk of derformed valve

by Kelloy, Oct 10, 2000 12:00AM
I am 36 yrs. old.  When I was 11 yrs. old they believed I had a hole in my heart and did a catherization done at Georgetown University Hospital.  What they found was one of my valves (I am not sure which one) was shorter than it should be.  The two Doctors had a difference of opinion as to operate or not.  My parents chose not to.  What possible side effects could be a result of this?  I have had normal ekg's the past few years.  I wondered about things like getting tired more easily, shortness of breath etc. or anything else there might be.  Thank you

Dear Kelloy,
It's not entirely clear to me what type of abnormality your doctors found.  There are many congenital problems that do not need surgical correction.  However, some things may need treated later as an adult.  I think the best thing in your case would be to get an echocardiogram to evaluate things now and then go from there.
