SECOND BYPASS SURGERY

SECOND BYPASS SURGERY

My husband had bypass surgery in April 2009. A blockage at 60% in the back of the heart was not by-passed by the surgeon and in November 2010 required a stent for that blockage that had reached 80%. That stent is partially blocked now.  Cardiologist does not have any reason for why the blockage was not by-passed at the time of surgery, but this is causing extreme fatigue, shortness of breath, chest pain. What are the recommendations for a second by-pass, are they usually successful?  He is 67 & heart disease is very prevelant in his family.

I don't think they like to put people through too much major surgery for obvious reasons. It sounds as though scar tissue formed inside the stent, making me wonder if it was a bare metal stent rather than a drug eluting one. There are plenty of options to open that stent, and if your husbands quality of life is poor, they need to offer something. If they do not, I would go to a hospital where they have greater experience in stenting. Scar tissue can be removed with laser and radiation can be used to stop the scar tissue reforming. If necessary they can put a new stent inside the old one. I really don't see the point in more major surgery for such a small problem?
