SOMEONE PLEASE HELP

hi i am a 26 year old woman. i was diagnosed with atrial fribilation about 10 months ago and had cardio version. however i have been having some palpitations at times and have had really bad crushing like chest pain in the centre of chest. was taken to hospital and the thought it might have been angina had all the test done ie, exercise test which i could not complete due to the pain and had ecgs and blood tests to see if cardiac enzymes were ok. also had various other blood tests and they all came back normal. i was given gtn spray by paramedic befroe getting to hospital and that completely took the pain away within seconds. the docs say i am ok and i feel like i am just being pushed aside like i am wasting their time and yet i am really feeling theswe symptoms. they say its indigestion but i am on lansoprazole which by the way i have never had indigestion the way they describe it. the pain in my chest goes all the way to my arm, jaw and even my throat.if all the tests are saying my heart is ok then what could it be.. i am not stressed or anxiuos by the way as i have a very loving a supportive family system and husband... what could it be.. please help

Hi Kayzz,

Sorry to hear you are dealing with Afib, especially at such a young age.  Palpitations are an awareness of your own heartbeat. The "crushing pain" you mentioned could be gastro related. I think it can be pretty painful.

Have you had an echocardiogram to check the function and structure of your heart?  If my digestive were acting up, I would definitely not be able to complete (or start) a stress test; just standing up hurts.  Beside indigestion, heartburn pain can be very painful and can also
mimic cardiac pain.

I'm not familiar with the spray you mentioned; is that for pain?  The good news is, it sounds like you have had a good cardiac workup and that the doctors do not think your pain is cardiac in nature.  Have you seen a gastroenterologist?  What is lansoprazole used to treat?

I am not sure about your atrial fibrillation, but as far as indigestion and a gastroenterologist--Listen to this:
About once a year was husband was rushed to the ER--chest pain, sweating,
'looked bad-his color', and even jaw pain with it once. His cardiac work-up was basically
OK. They checked his CPK level (cardiac enzymes). They are elevated with muscle pain,
but should come back down, the following day, if it was not a heart attack & his WOULD come down. Hiatal hernia's can cause all kinds of symptoms & pain!
I eventually said--wait a minute, didn't you use to have a hiatal hernia (before our marriage)? He went to a gastroenterologist & sure enough, he got on medicine for that
and has been fine for years!
Warning: Don't anyone assume they just have this--never question chest pain--call
911 stat (minutes count!!).                       Love, Cottontop, RN
