HI I WAS WONDERING ABOUT HAVING SVT DURING MY SECOND PREGNANCY.  I DEVELOPED IT DURING MY 1ST WITH MY SON AND NOW I HAV FOUND OUT IM PREGNANT AGAIN AFTER JUST HAVING HIM 4 MONTHS AGO.  CAN THIS HARM ME?  I ASK THIS BECAUSE OF THE HARD TIME I HAD WITH MY SON.  IM ON A MEDICATION CALLED SECTRAL(ACEBUTOLOL) AND HAVE BEEN ON IT SINCE MY FIRST EPISODE A YEAR AGO.  WHEN I WAS PREGNANT I HAD EPISODES ALL THE TIME WHERE I WAS CONSTANTLY IN THE E.R.  FROM MY UNDERSTANDING IT CANT HARM THE BABY, BUT WHAT ABOUT ME?  PLEASE LET ME KNOW.  THANK YOU VERY MUCH

michelle,

thanks for the post.

If you were having persistant and uncontrolled episodes of the SVT then it could cause some cardiac damage. Some people have recurrence of symptoms during subsequent pregancies.

I would discuss this with your cardiologist and OB-GYN to come up with a plan to use safe medications and management. If you continue to have episodes after your preganacy or off medications an ablation may be an alternative method for controlling the rhythm.

good luck

I developed SVT's during my first pregnancy approximately 15 years (1990) ago.  I did not have any episodes during my 2nd (2000) and 3rd (2002) pregnancies.  I have had episodes between pregnancies and since I was pregnant - usually due to too much caffeine, too much alcohol, stress, being in a smoke filled room (I'm a non-smoker) and for no real reason at all.
