SVT and PVC's while pregnant

by sholdenphoto, Jun 24, 2009 07:58AM
I am a 36 year old female, currently pregnant with my second child.  I have been previously diagnosed with SVT and I normally have about 1 episode of tachycardia a year when I'm not pregnant.  I do not normally take any medication for the SVT.    During my first pregnancy I had no PVC's that I know of but I did have an episode of Tach.  Had to be taken to the emergency room to have it stopped.  During my current pregnancy I have developed PVC's.  I have them so frequently that I am seeing a cardiologist for it.  At first the cardiologist didn't think it needed to be treated with medication but then a few days ago I had another episode of Tach and ended up in the ER again.  I was observed over night and nothing happened.  After being sent home my cardiologist decided to put me on 25 mg twice a day of Lopressor.  I've been taking it for a couple of days now.  I can't tell that it does anything but make me tired and sleepy.  I'm still having PVC's like crazy.  Also, my potassium levels are very low.  I have been taking supplements for this for a while now and they helped a great deal but when I was in the ER they checked levels and said I was low again and they increased my dosage.  I'm wondering if the potassium is the problem?  Perhaps the Lopressor isn't really needed at all?  I have an appt. with my OBGYN on Friday.  I plan to have my potassium levels checked again.

Potassium levels can certainly affect the heart function and leave a person with PVCs/PACs. Discuss this with your doctor when you see him.
