Severe MV Regurgitation

Severe MV Regurgitation

My wife is 38 and we live in the UK.  She recently had an echo and in the copy results we were sent, it says she has severe mitral regurgitation, with a figure of 80%.

I'm really worried because I haven't even been able to find a figure this high anywhere on the net, yet she hasn't been called in to see the cardiologist or anything.

From what I've read to date, it feels as if we ought to be thinking about repair/replacement of the mitral valve.  I'm not sure why the cardiologist hasn't picked this up which worries me.  It makes me think he is too worried that she couldn't survive another surgery?

1973: Born with ALCAPA (origin of the left coronary artery from pulmonary artery) complicated by
myocardial infarction with left ventricular aneurysm formation.

1974: Cardiac arrest possibly due to myocarditis

1976: Mitral incompetence of unknown cause.

1985: Run of VT caused collapse.  Repeated.

1987: Cardiac catheter showed an anomalous coronary artery arising from the pulmonary artery.

1987: Open heart surgery revealed a ventricular aneurysm consistent with a previous infarct and the anomalous artery was closed off (ligated).  Subsequently suffered cardiac arrest.

1987: VT & VF continued, 2nd surgery at a different hospital for resection of the ventricular aneurysm and a coronary artery bypass (grafting with LIMA to the LAD) to establish a two coronary system.  See http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1224840/ for entry in British Medical Journal.

2000: Frequent ventricular ectopic activity.  Beta blocker prescribed.

Current:
Anxiety with attacks 2-3 times per week, pain in legs whilst going up stairs with some breathlessness.  Generally fatigued, palpitations.

Full echo results:  http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11773181/Echo%20-%20May%202011.txt

Echo Conclusions:
Mild anterior mitral valve prolapse with sever posteriorly directed MR.
Raised LA Pressure.
Reduced LV function in view of severe MR.
Good RV function.
