Severe White Coat Hypertension

Blood pressure ranges from 180-190 over 85/90 or higher in doctors office.  Normal readings at home.  I have an OMRON 637 wrist monitor with APS.  I take my monitor and readings to doctors office.  He takes my pressure  and then I take mine with my monitor - his readings are high and my readings are almost identical.  Same at the Cardiologist office so we have determined my monitor is accurate.  Blood and urine tests ok and echo cardiogram ok except with mild left vengtricular hypertrophy with mild diastolic dysfunction.  Readings are:  IVS thickness:  1.2 cm - normal: 0.7-1.1 cm and LA Area 21.4 cm2 - normal <18.2cm  All other readings within range.  Cardiologist not too concerned with this.  After I get home, I take my reading and it is back to normal.  Is it possible to have such a big difference at doctors office and home.  I am on Ramipril - 2.5 mg for the past month and a half.  I start to get nervous the morning of my appointment.  Any advise on this would be appreciate.

Thank you

Welcome toi the club!  I have the same problem, in a doctor's office, any doctor's office, my BP is usually 160/90 or more. I could be at my family doctor, Cardiologist, Rheumatologist or Orthopedic, it does not matter. I also use an Omron HEM 637. I have to bring it in with me during my visits to make sure it's calibrated accurately, it always is right on with my doctor's numbers. I take my BP every evening at the same time and it always runs around 105 - 110 / 60 - 70, EVERY DAY. Today it was 105/63, which is normal for me.

Like you, my doctor is not concerned. He always uses my readings from home and I provide him a readout with the most recent 90 readings. Don't feel alone, it is very common.

Hope this helps,

Jon

Thankyou so much for your response.  This does help.  I was beginning to wonder if the monitor was way out of whack.  Glad to hear someone else is using this same monitor and that it is accurate.  BP reading this morning at home - 120/74.  I have a drs. appointment on Wednesday for a another pressure check.  Hopefully he will use my readings and not up my dosage.  I just started with this a month and half ago.

Thanks again and have a good day.
