by aliya37, Dec 02, 2007 04:47PM
Hello
my father is 67 years old feelling shortness of breath about 6 months he walks a little bit or clim stairs. so we went and saw Cardiologist. he ordered a percentile thalium stress test and they told me that my father has blockage in the lower part of the heart. and he also ordered a Echocadiogram. my dad is high diabetic and high blood pressure.
so Dr metioned to do angiogram and he will decide what that time.
what is your opinion on this. my dad chest  rays is clear and cholestrol level is good and his ekg is good. but very short of breath.
please let me know your opinion.
thanks

The stress test was able to pinpoint a problem area.  The Angiogram is a very safe way to confirm this.  It would seem that the doctor is right on top of the problem.

Diabetes and high blood pressure are high risk factors.  Both are contributors to artery inflamation (inflammation) that lead to blood clots.

I have had a number of stents, I'm diabetic and have high blood pressure and each time I found myself short of breath, a blood clot was the reason.  It sounds like your father's doc is following good scientific practices that will keep your father well.  I'd urge your father to proceed with confidence.

I agree with flycaster.  Being diabetic increases his risk of coronary artery disease and he needs to have the cath.
