Should I go to do these tests

by carolw, Dec 30, 2002 12:00AM
I had a success PV ablation to treat AF this fall and has been feeling great since then. I have no AF at all, only a few PACs. I was informed to go back for a 3-month follow up and a 6-month follow up. Routinely, the follow up tests include heart CT, lung CT, ECG and 24 hour holt. I'm hesitate to repeat these tests for followups, as I'm feeling great.
I'd greatly appreciate your suggestion.

Dear Carol,

By all means, go back for these follow-up tests. After a PV ablation there is a risk for PV stenosis at the site of the ablation which is approximately 1 to 3%. Pulmonary vein stenosis is a narrowing in the pulmonary veins due to scar tissue. The CT scans will evaluate you for the development of this potential complication. The holter monitor is being done in an effort to detect any asymptomatic episodes of atrial fibrillation or any other rhythm disturbance. Therefore, these tests are very important.
The atrial fibrillation ablation procedure is a relatively new procedure. Your doctor is very interested in the follow-up of all of his patients, inorder to help evaluate the long term risks and benefits.

Thanks for your question,
