Side effects of Beta Blockers

by Poohbear275, Aug 30, 2008 07:39PM
In 2005 I developed Arrythmia and had to have open heart surgery for replacement of my Mitral valve and 1 bypass. I have been on Sotalol since the surgery. I have been experiencing side effects of weight gain, depression, flashing lights in the eyes and Psoriasis.  I have been to an eye doctor, retina specialist and dermatologist. They have suggested it could be due to the beta blockers. My Cardiologist disagrees completely and I am at a complete loss here and very upset. Any advice or suggestions would be most welcome.

Beta blockers  - can cause meny side effects!  iv been on a few before
the side effects of rapid or waight gain is one of the effects for sure !
depression is another - vision problems where your eyes are very sensative to light or brightness happens !  among other effects that can and will happen - I have run into a few so called Good Doctors and sent to 3 Cardiologist's  that were "so called" the best in town ?  well that isnt always the case,  the facts are there - you can go online and look up side effects for your beta blocker medication and copy it, then show it to him - if he will take the time and listen to you ?
clearly this beta blocker isnt working well for you , and you cant tollerate it -  If worse to worse , you can always see another Doctor
or cardiologist - and switch medications.  or just demand he switch it !
as per your adverse side effects !

I hate to say this, but it sounds like this cardiologist is playing God ..
or is getting somekind of a bonus $$$  on perscribing you on this stuff.
could be the reason , he wont switch you off it.
as there are meny beta blockers out there to take .. and other meds
for b.p - and heart conditions.

the Arrythmia -  is controlled on beta blockers most times !
I had palpaitions bad - was put on a ccb cal channel blocker first.. then
cardi switched me to beta blocker -  went 5 years on one then 6.5 on another .. now back on the ccb ?  go figure !   meny -meny side effects
from these drugs !!    the ccb also helps control palps and r.h.b.
but not so for me !!   I like meny people who have to take b.p meds
are very upset too , as I can not tollerate the side effects .. or the fact
doctor refuses to switch the meds !    so I change doctors  everytime !
iv been to 9 already .. I see my bones - next friday for final visit .. to switch meds . we will see what he gives me ! or trys to push on me.. lol

Good Luck and Let them know !  you cant tollerate the med
and change the med asap !  or switch Doctor !
