Skipped Beats

I have been experiencing my heart skipping beats.  I've been to a cardiologist
who has performed all of the tests - echo, chest x-ray, holtor monitor, and he
has explained to me that my heart is "just in fact skipping beats and this
is just a nuisence."  However, when I lay down at night these skipping
beats go into like an irregular beat and can last over 3 minutes.  They
seem to have fast but normal beats in between skipping beats.  Are these PVC's
and is this ok to have them last this long?  My doctor did not seem to
pay much attention to this, but it still scares me.
