Enlarged aorta are increasingly being recognized due to the prevalence of imaging techniques such as CT scans, echos and MRI. Patients with enlarged aortas should get an echocardiogram at least every year to monitor the size of the aorta. Once the aorta is over 4.5 to 5 cm, discussion regarding the timing of aortic replacement should be had with your physician and a thoracic surgeon.
