Son is jittery with higher than normal blood pressure

My 27-year old son, who is on Remicade every 10 weeks for Crohn's Disease and has been for 5 years, has complained of feeling "jittery" for the last 2 days.  Took his blood pressure and it was 170/90.   It is normally 120/80.  Other than the Crohn's, which is greatly controlled with the Remicade, he is in excellent physical condition.  He ran a 5-mile road race on Thanksgiving and usually runs a few miles each day.  Is this something to worry about?  Says he was so jittery last night he couldn't sleep.  He drinks only water--no energy drinks, coffee, tea, etc.  Thank you.

I'm sorry to hear about your son's problems.  Remicade (infliximab) can cause high blood pressure.  It typically doesn't cause "jitters" per se, but it can have effects on the central nervous system.  The fact that he has been on the medication for 5 years with no problems makes a new side effect unlikely.  Please discuss these symptoms with the physician that prescribes the infliximab to see if it needs to be weaned or stopped.

Best of luck.
