Sotalol and exercise

Sotalol and exercise

I'm a 39 yo male, fairly active, and have been recently having atrial fibrillations, enough so that I've been put on sotalol to try and control rhythm. My question is in two parts:
a) I appear to be quite fatigued by the sotalol; does this get better over time?
b) When exercising, my heart rate isn't climbing to my normal range (140-160 bpm) and my performance is suffering for it. Is there a trick to handling this other than simply slowing down, and is there less or no benefit to 'cardio' workouts when you can't get your heart rate to the preferred zone?
Thanks,
CmeClimb

I've not gotten any real progress or answers from my doctors on this one, so I thought I'd post my personal opinion.
a) my fatigue never got better, but when taken off Sotalol for a couple days to prepare for a different med, I noticed a distinct reduction in my fatigue.
b) being on Sotalol through the summer and still road and mountain biking just about as much as I typically do during the season my conclusion is this: the Sotalol does, to a degree, inhibit 'cardio' workouts and training benefits. I didn't have even close to the same improvement curve I've come to experience, even after 'plateau' rides of many miles and hours. The Sotalol kept me from getting to a comfortable heart rate... my rate being too slow to keep up with the demands pedaling anything other than a slow warm-up pace, or bypassing my 'zone' and fatiguing me in moment, like I was doing a hard uphill sprint...

I have been experiencing the same problems & have the same questions. However the sodalol has been pretty effective in controling my flutter.  I am 67 years old & I have difficulty getting my heart rate above 105.  I quess I have to take the good with the bad.  PS a dose of 40mgs twice a day does the job. I know this is half the norm..

I've actually gone through an atrial ablation procedure and had a very good result. Now I'm on asprin once a day and don't take the sotalol any longer. Glad to hear the drug is effectively managing your rhythm.
