Stent in the Pulmonary artery

Stent in the Pulmonary artery

I have just received the news from my angiogram yesterday that my Pulmonary Artery is significantly narrowed just above the valve at what was the previous banding site. (It was banded in 1966 and debanded when the VSD was repaired in 1973). This was not unexpected news as the echoscan and symptoms were pointing this way.

The consultant has said he wants to team up with the consultant that I had when I was a child and give me a general anaesetic and put a stent in to open up the artery.

My question is about restenosis and blockages. Much of the data about stents is dealing with coronary arteries. Can you provide any further information about the complications from a stent in the pulmonary artery. The stenotic part of the artery measured across at 8 and the ordinary section of artery measured at 13. So, I know a stent will improve the quality of life for me,but still I wanted to know about all the risks beforehand.

Many thanks for your time and knowledge.

Restenosis is more of a risk in coronary arteries as they are much smaller in diameter, usually under 4 millimeters. In much larger arteries, restenosis, assuming the initial result is good, is much less likely.
