Strange question for those with Tachy

by Lextgrim, Jun 13, 2007 12:00AM
I have a bit of a wierd question.  I was having my nails done recently and noticed that my fingernails are a funny colour.  I looked it up online and noticed that your nails can tell a lot about your health.

My question is: redness to the nail bed may indicate heart probs.  Has anyone who is experiences tachycardia and palps got discoloration to their nails?  I have pale fingernails, sometimes they can be pale blue, but the skin under the tips is very red, like red bands across the top of all of my fingernails.  I have tried looking it up but I just get lots of links to nail polish sites.

Yeah, kind of.  It does look like that, my nails are really pale with red bands at the top.

Thing is, I have had numerous tests on my blood and well, no one really knows what is wrong with me.  The diagnosis has been anxiety.  But I have been physically unwell for a while.

It's not diabetes because i was tested for that, and liver function was tested.
I have had heart related blood tests, ecgs and chest x rays, I do have on going sinus tachy with palps/pacs/pvcs and they are worsened by exertion but I was told my heart is healthy.

It could be malnutrition because I lost my appetite in March and barely ate for over two months and lost lots and lots of weight - I have lost most of my body fat in two months because I felt so ill i could not eat.

But i have been eating really healthily since May, I eat 4 meals a day now and eat lots of fresh fruit and veg.  But my nails are still a funny colour.

Sinus Tachy is usually caused by some underlying problem though isn't it?

I have been unwell since 2 months after having my baby.  I had 2 infections (1 in a tooth - treated, and one in my womb - treated) had lots of tests to state that I am apparently very healthy.  And yet, I am getting worse.  I have begged for an MRI but more than one doctor at the practice I go to insist it is a mental problem because my bloods were perfect.

One GP has suspected M.E. (CFS) because i have a red throat (Crimson Crescents as they call it).  And i get muscle pain and weakness, numbness, tingling, petechiae, dry skin, pins and needles, itching all over, muscle twitches, dilated pupils etc...  I have been on numerous forums looking for help because my doctors won't listen to me.

I sure dont know, but hope you get your health under control.  Fibro myalgia??  A lady I work with tells me she is now eating healthy.  This is her idea of healthy: Big block of cheese, salty crackers for a snack, eggs on bagels with even more cheese, in the morning at work.  Out to a big lunch (pizza, subs, you name it)... She thinks it is healthy because she throws a couple apple slices or some other fruit on the plate.  Some people think some things are healthy that are not.  Review your diet, the OTC meds you take and even your beverages.  I have always thought, if you cant see through it, dont drink it.

Hi there.  I can't believe I found this, because after you have described your symptoms I have been dealing with almost the exact same symptoms (and others) since early February 2007.  My nails are exactly as you describe.  I have petechae, itching, muscle twitches, and a lot of other stuff (chills, low body temp while asleep, high BP, painful veins), which may or may have not been related.  All tests (blood, urine, ultrasound, ct scan) have come back negative.  I did lose 15 pounds in 3 weeks, but have since put it back on, and I now eat very well...perhaps a bit too well.

Believe it or not, I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder during this whole thing, and I've been on meds since.  They've helped the anxiety, but the nails remain odd looking.  I read that they are called half and half nails.  They tend to indicate early kidney failure, but so far docs have found nothing to indicate that.

I'll keep you posted on if I ever get a diagnosis.  Good luck.
