Subclavian Steal Or?

by Karen Worthington, Sep 05, 1999 12:00AM
Could a difference in B/P readings between right and left arms be accounted for by sleeping habits.  I always sleep on my left arm.

Is a regular 10-20 point difference in arms both systolic/diastolic indicative of Subclavian Steal?  One time out of nine readings the bp would be approximately the same in both arms.  So would that rule out subclavian problems?  I have pain on my left side chest, numbness and pain in the arm.  But also seem to have flares.  The pain subsides and my arm seems almost normal.  Also when the pain flares I can trace an artery/nerve? from my shoulder that goes directly to my heart.

If it is a subclavian blockage is medication effective?

Thanks for any responses

Karen

Dear Karen

Sleeping patterns would not cause subclavian obstruction or steal. Medications would not help. A difference of 10-20 mmHG could be normal or due to mild subclavian blockage.

I hope this has been useful. I wish you the best of luck.
