by 2453Me, Oct 11, 2008 04:23AM
I am a 42 year old diabetic type 2, diagnosed with hypertension about a year ago, recently diagnosed with heart murmur, and also had a borderline ekg, ihave also been on perscribed methadone for arthritis for about three years, I am schedualed for a ecocardiagram next week, I am wondering if the methadone could be causing the sudden problems.

When methadone is taken under medical supervision, long-term maintenance causes no adverse effects to the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, bones, blood, brain, or other vital body organs. Methadone produces no serious side effects, although some patients experience minor symptoms such as constipation, water retention, drowsiness, skin rash, excessive sweating, and changes in libido. Once methadone dosage is adjusted and stabilized or tolerance increases, these symptoms usually subside. From what I was able to read, there are no real side effects of Methadone that would cause the issues you are experiencing.

Hope this helps.

Thanks For the info, it is good to know, because the methadone has been very helpful with my pain control. I should have more insight on my problem after further tests next week. Thank You

just read some new information on web that there is wide growing concern that patients on long term perscribed methadone are commonly reporting or have experianced, heart Arrhythmia, heart attack, severe valve damage, and cardio -toxicity, so it seems there may be some debate on that one.
