Suspected Myocarditis
My very athletic 16 1/2 year old son had severe chest pain almost 4 weeks ago, no other symptoms. We were in the cardiac ICU for 3 days and we diagnosed as possible myocarditis. He has felt great and has no other issues since then. he has had 3 echos that were normal and 3 12 lead EKG's that were normal. Last Friday they gave him a stress test and said he had inverted t waves resting and during the stree test. Why did this never show up on his 12 lead EKG's? How long does it usually talked a very athletic kid to return to his normal activities?

I viewed the link provided, and seems to answer your question.  I can add that EKG's are not very reliable and requires further evaluation with clinical evidence and corraborating symptoms.

Thanks for your question, and if you have any further questions or comments you are welcome to respond.  Take care,

Ken
