Swelling above left ankle, painful soleus...cd. it be circulation-related?

I am new to this board, so I have no idea if it is active, and if I will get a response, but thought I would try.

I have a combined cholesterol level of 300 and have been taking a diuretic for about 29 months for elevated blood pressure, but this is a new one on me...  Right below my calf muscle, on down to above the left heel, I have developed a puffiness that almost makes the ankle look like I sprained it.  This coincided with a nagging pain in the area when walking.  What really ***** is that I am having a total hip replacement of the right hip in 5.5 weeks, and this pain makes any sort of exercise painful, and I need to keep my strength up for the surgery and rehab.

Any constructive input will be appreciated.  I am also starting on a Red Yeast Rice/Co-Q10 regimen, for whatever that is worth.

Given your lab values, it is very possible you have a DVT (deep vein thrombosis aka blood clot) Please see a doctor asap to rule this out. Untreated blood clots can travel and cause strokes, heart attacks and pulmonary embolisms. Not to be taken lightly. Well wishes to you!

I also think you might have a blood clot.  The fact that it is only on your left leg makes it more a focus point.  Do see a doctor asap, please consider the emergency room.  Regardless, I'd quit taking the natural products, they might interact with much more effective meds needed if you have a clot.

Diuretics might affect your kidneys over time and Uric acid could accumulate causing swelling and pain in the joints - known as Gout. You should be able to tell if that's the problem, the skin around the swelling usually has a pinkish tone to it.
