Swollen ankles

I have not had any test due to lack of insurance.  I have not abused any drugs but may have a drink twice a year. I happen to have ankles that swell but they do not leave a dent if pushed in with finger. I do realize that a physical will answer some questions but when ever I go to doctor, they have advised if it doesn't bother you don't bother it. (That was Fatty tumor on my back).  From other postings I can see that true to form most Dr's are used to medicating without really curing problem.  I have started to eat more fruit and always loved vegetables, but not regular like most people who seem to go twice a day.  I may have to pay out of pocket for some tests and just wondering which ones would answer my question about cervical cancer, colon cancer, and heart disease? I am 57 years old and need real advice on test names, that would help do some screening. Thanks for info if you can.

Swollen ankles can be a symptom of many things from congestive heart failure to inadequate kidney function.  Certain BP medications can cause swelling of the ankles also.
