Symptoms-When to react

by Edwin Puckett, Sep 15, 1999 12:00AM
I have been diagnosed with aortic stenosis. My doctor has provided me with symptoms to look for and suggests that I return to him if they get frequent or bad. I have the signs from time to time, such as moderate chest pain when I strain myuself, rush myself, walk too fast etc.

He has also told me that I might need a valve installed, should it become necessary. I cannot make up my mind as to how I determine when it is necessary or how many episodes of pain I should endure before going back to him.

Any suggestions you can offer will be appreciated.

Dear Edwin,

You should report these chest pain symptoms to your physician.  symptoms or a decline in left ventricular function as assessed by echo are the primary indications for valve repair.
