Tachycardia after eating? continued

I ran across this forum while searching for information on Mast Cell Activation Syndrome with P.O.T.S. (positional orthostatic tachycardic syndrome).

I have a suggestion. Some of you might want to try taking an H1 and H2 histamine blocker an hour before eating and see if that does any good. Benadryl is an example of an H1 and Pepcid is an H2, both available over the counter. Benadryl will knock you out if you aren't used to taking it. Zyrtec might be a better choice for an H1. It is now OTC.

Doing that has allowed me to eat although I also have to take more meds after eating or I will just get a delayed response. I too lost quite a bit of weight when I became scared to eat and I was skinny to start with...got down close to 90 pounds and was desperate to find an answer.

My tachycardia seems to be due to a mast cell activation disorder. My blood pressure also rises with the episodes which has thrown my doctors since they were expecting a drop if it was an allergic response.

I recently discovered that P.O.T.S. could explain the rise in pressure and it has been associated with mast cell activation disorders.

I hope this helps someone,
Becca

I too had a problem with my heart racing within 1/2 of eating. I started to keep a food log and narrowed down the problem to corn, or so I thought. It was actually high fructose corn syrup. I cut this out of my diet and low and behold...no more episodes of my heart racing and pounding after I eat. I hope this helps someone else with this problem.
