Tachycardia and DCM, just curious

Tachycardia and DCM, just curious

I wonder about the connection here - I'm not really afraid of this (I've had an echo done and my heart is structurally normal).

In a young healthy individual, with normal blood pressure, how fast heart rate is required, and for how long, to develop dilated cardiomyopathy? I know this is depending on both factors, higher heart rate, shorter time, and opposite.

If your heart rate is, say, 120, how well does the heart tolerate this?

I get some runs of sinus tachycardia with anxiety, or with quick movements if my blood pressure is low (like early in the morning especially on warm days). My resting heart rate is about 50, though. I guess this cannot harm the heart in any way?

It not very much information about this available, I think.

Thanks in advance!

You should call your doctor just to be sure with anything that could be heart related as there is always a chance it could be something potentially serious.

That being said, it sounds like you may have anxiety and dehydration, which both can be managed (relax and drink more fluids).

Exercise related sinus tachcyardia isn't associated with cardiomyopathy.  We typically see dialted cardiomypathy that is tachycardia related in patients who have poorly controlled atrial fibrillation with rates greater than say 150 BPM that last for a long time.  It can also typically occur in patients who have many (>15% of all heart beats/24 hours) beats that originate in the lower chambers of the heart (PVC's).    Even though it tends to vary from patient to patient, one would have to be in tachcyardia for a couple of weeks or so before we would notice some worsening in heart function.  The good news about this cardiomyopathy is that when the tachcyardia is resolved, the heart function typically improves.
