Tachycardia

I've been feeling pretty lousy with some major heart palpitations.  I just checked my pulse with my neighbor's blood pressure machine.  Over the past couple of hours my pulse has ranged from 169 - 179.  Is this something I should have checked out?  This is the second episode I've felt this way over the past three weeks.

Thanks

its impossible to tell without a monitor if that high heart rate is normal tachycardia of it is an arrhythmia, its definatly tachycardia, but its not so high that it would learn more towards arrhythmia.. but it is definatly something to talk to your doctor about.. have you had a holter or event monitor yet? if not, thats a great place to start.. Hopefully you can catch an episode so your physician will have a more clear idea of whats going on.

Thanks.  I don't have a doctor that I feel comfortable discussing this with.  No, no recent tests (past few years).  Previously I have been diagnosed with tachycardia, mitral valve prolapse, PVcs, etc., but when I last visited a cardiologist about 2 1/2 years ago, he said everything is perfectly normal.  He did not do an echocardiogram.  He said I have "outgrown" the mitral valve prolapse.  I was somewhat surprised at that statement as I wasn't aware you could "outgrow" mitral valve.  I was age 56 when he told me that -- prior to that every doctor had diagnosed mitral valve along with a heart murmur and he said he did not detect that either.

If this is an isolated occasion, I'll just wait and see on this one.

Thanks again for your help.

I would go to your DR immediatley abut the tachy which can be serious if it doesn;t calm down. I was sweating after my episode.I have alwasy had daily heart palps even on Beta, and i am really tired of my life this way. I am not working now and have fear of walking up steps .MY heart beats so fast.
