Tachycarida with SoB, 23, Female.

For a while, my girlfriend has Tachycardia with Shortness of Breath episodes 1 - 3 times a day lasting for 20 - 40 seconds. She has gone to the cardiologist for EKG. It came out normal. Cardiologist also gave her the portable EKG recorder and it came back normal. I need opinions on what she might have. Recently, she started to have sleep apnea and waking up gasping for air.

Could she have SVT? or is it just GAD?

Please help!

Thanks

The best way to evaluate symptoms of palpitations (or fast heart rates) is by a holter monitor which will record heart rate/rhythm over a prolonged period of time. The caveat to this test is that it may not catch events, especially if they are happening infrequently. If a holter was performed that showed normal results (and she was experiencing symptoms during this time) it is unlikely that it went uncaught.  However, if she did not experience any events during this time, a monitor that records over a longer period of time may be able to catch them.
