Terrified of Tachycardia

by jejouelaflute, Apr 23, 2008 09:36PM
I am a 29 year old girl who has just recently had an episode of Tachycardia.  (so i've been told)  it was a fluttery almost electrocuting feeling when i was on the ECG.  Otherwise it's usually a flip-flop feeling in my chest like someone has just come around a corner and startled me.  I had it once before but attributed it to being stressed out.  This time I got scared and went to urgent care.  They put me on a ECG and actually caught an episode.  I was told not to worry about it and they took blood to check my thyroid and said I should see a family dr.  I went to my new family doctor and she looked at my ECG test and got my blood tests back and said that other than the episode on the ECG everything looked fine.  She did the listening to my heart with the stethoscope thing and today prescribed me with an antibiotic because of a slightly high white blood cell count.  I was prescribed a drug that can cause rapid heartbeat as a rare side effect+.  Does this make any sense?  I think the anxiety is caused by the Tachycardia.  I never considered myself and anxious person but now I am absolutely terrified that something will happen with my heart.  2 Dr.'s have said don't worry about it but how do you not?  any advice?  How do they know just by listening?  Would it be silly and a waste of $$ to go to a cardiologist?  It usually happens at night i've noticed over the last week that i've had it.

I work a full time job that stresses me out, a part time job, and am a part time college student.  I hate being constantly fearful and aware of my heart beating when i used to just take it for granted.  wake up call huh?!  :)
