Test Results Questions

by sue-ane, Jan 20, 1999 12:00AM

  Hello-
I would like to know if you could answer some questions about a few test results on my medical record that i picked up from the hospital:
1.)Under the topic Heart, it is listed, "S1, S2. There is a loud P2 in the pulmonary area. I did not hear any systolic click or any murmur after that."  what does this mean?
2.)On the EKG it says, "There are some non-specific T-wave abnormalities, flattening of the T wave in lead 1 and 2."
3.)On the echocardiogram it says the," ejection fraction is 55-60% "and the" left ventricle flow is 0.53" (normal 0.7-1.1) and "septal wall thickness is 1.52 systolic" but it says normal range is 0.7-1.2.
  4.) My blood test results were ABG pH 7.4, pCO2 36.9, pO2 118,bicarb 24.4, O2 saturation 97.8%. Also CK is 48, MB .2.
I know this is a lot, but I don't have any money to see a doctor and only went to the emergency room because I was having a racing heart and chest pain. They dismissed me, but never explained any of this, and I can't go to the doctor because I don't have insurance. If you could help at all I would appreciate it.

Dear Sue-Anne, thank you for your question.  The loud P2 indicates that the physician heard a louder than normal closing sound of the pulmonic valve.  Most likely, this is normal.  Non-specific t-wave flattening can be a benign problem, but can also indicate a potential problem in someone who has chest pain.  This is a non-specific finding for the above reasons, so further tests are usually indicated if the suspicion that coronary artery disease is causing the chest pain is high enough.  The echocardiogram is generally normal except the left ventricular walls are slightly thickened.  This could be caused by high blood pressure, so if you have high blood pressure, it should be treated.  The ABG and CK/MB results are normal.  I understand your predicament regarding health insurance, but I am not able to make diagnoses in this forum nor am I able to reassure you that you do not have a cardiac problem.  I suggest that you try to seek care at a nearby academic medical center that treats patients without insurance.   If at all possible, you should follow-up with a physician regarding your symptoms and ER visit.
I hope you find this information useful.  Information provided in the heart forum is for general purposes only.  Only your physician can provide specific diagnoses and therapies. Please feel free to write back with additional questions.  Good luck!
