The Cardiologist I saw told me I had a healthy heart "no follow up" needed. That suits me fine. They only recommend every 6 months if the echo was not normal and they thought they found something which could maybe become a problem later on.
I have to agree with vienna13. If there is a reason to get yourself tested, do so; but otherwise, go enjoy your life. You really don't want to be monitoring yourself for all possible problems. Stress will kill you.
YOU HAVE A HEALTHY HEART....why would you need a test in every year or 6 months. That is insane!
Live your life heart friendly .
It depends on your risk factors, in my case I had annual cardiac work ups the past three years after some mild chest pain in 2005 just to be safe. They have always been normal and the last time I saw my cardiologist to go over the test results in August of last year, she told me that they were really not necessary on an annual basis any longer. I asked the same question you did and she told me they should be repeated if I developed new symptoms or any changes and that my family doctor could manage my care going forward. Again, this depends on your risk factors, other than being a little overweight I don't really have any.
One other thing to consider is that having too many tests too often increases the chance of a false positive which would lead to more invasive and unecessary procedures that carry a risk, most of them small but still a risk. I'm no doctor but that's what my cardiologist told me.
Good Luck,
Jon
I know folks with heart disease get checked every 6 months but I've never heard of a person with a healthy heart being tested that often. What types of tests do you mean? It's not expecting too much to have an EKG once a year, especially if heart problems run in the family. I only have mine checked every 2 years, just to track my arrhythmias.
