Thallium Scan

My wife is a patient of high blood pressure.She is 38yrs old.her b.p is mostly in the range of 170/110.she also has off and on left sided chest pain with nauseating feeling.she is overwt.her ht is 5ft 4in, her wt is 84kg. she is on losartan 50mg,aspirin75mg,atenololchlorthalidone 50mg.daily.her ECG is normal.VLDL LEVELS ARE RAISED.TRIGLYCERIDES are 202 and TSH are normal. she has been advised THALLIUM SCANNING.I  want to ask you should we go for it?

The thallium scan helps determine if areas of the heart do not receive enough blood. The exercise thallium scan is especially useful in diagnosing coronary artery disease, the presence of blockages in the coronary arteries (the vessels that supply oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle).

Yes, it would be appropriate to take a stress test to determine if there are any vessel occlusions that may be blocking a good and adequate blood supply to the heart cells.  If there are any occlusions that would strongly indicate the source of your wife's symptoms.
