Dear CCF Physicians,
How reliable are thallium stress tests after angioplasty? Does the reliability increase if thallium stress tests given a year apart both show similar and normal results and also regular stress tests between the yearly thalliums also showed normal and similar results? Lastly, is a thallium stress test as reliable as a PET scan?

The sensitivity and specificity of a thallium test for detection of coronary artery disease is about 92% and 88% respectively. This does not change following an angioplasty and is about the same as PET scaning.
