The effects on Atenolol

The effects on Atenolol

I am 22 years old I take a 100mg Atenolol everyday (50mg in the morning and 50mg in the evening). I heard that Atenolol makes the person feel very tired and has to stop immediately if a woman gets pregnant because It can seriously harm the baby. I am 79kilos in weight and I tried walking everyday and eat healthy food but everything seems to be the same. Is it because of the medication?

Thanks!

I did a study on beta blockers for months !  Atenolol  will make you very tired on the dose your taking daily-  as well a lot of other things - side effects  like no sleep !  and
no get up and go !  hair loss !   so on down the road -   Yes for sure its very true about
if a Woman becomes Pregnant - she must stop taking it - as birth defects can happen
as well it can for sure harm the baby or cause death to the baby in some cases.

the hard part is - alot of people need to weened off the medication slow - inorder to get off it without side effects , or withdrawal symptom like feelings.

If your planning on becoming pregnant - you should see your Doctor, and stop the medication with his /her help.

its always good to read the side effect list on the pill container or sheet with the meds.
or go online and look up side effects for atenolol ..  its all there !  ( and as well for other medicaitons )  it can really help you ..  as well you can see if your good Doctor is telling you the truth about the meds.  (side effects)  and dangers !

Hope I helped in some way..   take care and good luck !   Boogernose

To re-emphasize the importance of something in the previous post:

When taking a beta blocker, especially large doses, it is very important to talk to your doctor and taper off s-l-o-w-l-y.

I don't enjoy taking beta blockers, myself.  At one point, I was prescribed 100mg Metropolol, and did not tolerate it well at all.  After a medication "vacation," I am successfully controlled taking 25mg Atenolol without much difficulty, and watching my bp/HR etc. (with my cardiologist) in the hope of quitting even that much in time.  But I wouldn't mess with dosage on beta blockers without specifically clearing it with your doctor!

Good luck.
