The never ending saga of palpitations

MOST of the time when i have palpitations it's brief, few minutes...And even sometimes they go away after some deep breaths, and some other techniques...Only a couple times in recent memory can i recall times where is seemed like i had an acclerated heart rate for several hours, when i say acclerated HR generally in the 90-110 range...The last time i had a lengthy bout of palpitations was on XMAS day...I remember it as i was in LA on vacation, the episode started after i bent down quickly in the shower at the hotel, and last for several hours before going away...During the multi-hour episode, there were no breathing problems, and i was able to go about my day despite being out of rhythm for a while...Also, I've NEVER fainted or felt light-headed because of palpitations...As i mentioned on prior posts, been thru the ringer w/testing and everything comes back ok...

1. If one experiences an accelerated rhythm for several hours (90-110 bpm), can that do long term damage?....Or, is it not as bad if the palpitations originate in the atria as opposed to the ventricle....My cardiologist seems so convinced that my palpitations are not serious that he doens't think i need another event monitor or have a stress test...

I guess I'm still freaked out after reading this story http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/06/sports/ncaabasketball/06laroche.html where a 41 yr. old basketball coach died on the court, he had history of fainting due to his palpitations though after reading several stories on him...

Palpitations that last such as short time cannot have a negative long-term impact on the heart.  In addition, if the palpitations have been determined by your extensive testing to be in the atrium, then they are not life threatening in an of themselves.  If you have atrial fibrillation, then you certaintly could be at risk for stroke, but it sounds like you have had extensive testing and this is not the arrhtymia you have.  People who die of cardiac arrhythmias are those that have origin in the ventricle, so you are okay.
