This is a question about my dad.

This is a question about my dad.

My father is 78. He is a two time cancer survivor-throat cancer. The first time he had radiation. The second time, he had surgery to remove the cancer and his voice box. It has been a really hard difficult road and still is to this day. He also has CAD. An angiogram several months ago showed  he has 3 blockages which the cardiologist said could not be stented. I don't remember the percentages. The cardiologist also said my father was not a canidate for bypass surgery due to his health. He said if my father came into the hospital with a heart attack, they'd have to try surgery then but would not risk it now. Instead they have put him on aggressive medication therapy. I can't remember all the meds-sorry.

Lately he is having these weird feelings in his chest-NOT PAIN. He describes it as a warm, spreading sensation in his center chest area/upper stomach area. Then he says he will feel tingly for a few seconds. Then it will pass although it can come in like waves several times throughout the day.  Does anyone else have something like this? I told him that I thought it sounded like adrenaline rushes (maybe like a panic attack) but the truth is I don't know. I know it is bothering him.

The reason I thought it was maybe panic type of adrenaline rushes is because he has such a hard time since his throat surgery. It is very difficult and he does suffer a great deal although he DOES NOT complain. I can just see it. I know how hard it is.

I am sorry that I am being so long winded. My question is really does this sound to you like it could be adrenaline rushes like I suggested OR could it be heart related? Should I suggest that he talk to his cardiologist about this? I would appreciate anyone else's thoughts or suggestions concerning this.

Hi there.  I'm sorry to hear of everything your father has been through, that's quite a lot to handle.

The sensations you're describing could be something, or they could be nothing.  It might be cardiac or it might be digestive.  Either way I think it warrants mentioning to the cardiologist.

Best wishes.

Thanks, anacyde. He does see his cardiologist here in a couple of weeks. I'm going to encourage him to go ahead and mentioned this  during his visit. I do know that one of his meds is for GERDS to try to stop the throat cancer from returning a third time. Then there is a beta-blocler and some other stuff. I just don't know what all of it is.

My father is an amazing man. Even at his age and all that he has been through, he still voluteers twice a week at the hospital. I know that they have gotten so many letters from patients who have been there who have been helped mentally because of talking with my dad. He has a prothestic voice and patients have said, "If this man can do this after all that has happend to him, I'm going to make it too." I'm so proud of him. He is at the 5 year mark now for hyaving survived cancer for the second time! That is so good!

I had that one time.  I would describe it as a wave of warm water rushing over me and then subsiding.  I went to the er with it and it got me a stent.  Don't really know if it was caediac related or not.  I actually tend to doubt that it was.  BUT, if you take yourself to a cardiologist with a symptom, he WILL find something that needs fixing..  At least mine always have.
