I have been getting PVC and PAC for the last 3 1/2 years.  They have been getting worst and now are determining what I can or can't do.  They are effecting my life style.  I don't smoke, drink, or take caffeine, so the doctor just gave me toprol, and we are going to see how it works on me.  What concerns should I have about taking toprol.  He has me taken 25mg once a day.

Dear Tim,
Firstly, you should read the insert that came with the drug, or the pharmacy instructions that came with the prescription.
Side effects of beta blockers (toprol is in this class of drugs) are things like tiredness, decreased libido(sex drive), slowed heart rate, lowered blood pressure, and more.   Because beta blockers lower blood pressure at least a little, you should never get out of bed, nor stand up too quickly, and should you develop dizziness, lightheadedness, or near fainting, call you doctor immediately.  Any drug has the potential to cause an allergic reaction, rash, headache, dizziness and lethargy.
I hope you find this information useful. Information provided in the heart forum is for general
purposes only. Only your physician can provide specific diagnoses and therapies. Please feel free to
write back with additional questions. Good luck.
If you would like to make an appointment at the Cleveland Clinic Heart Center, please call

can be used to select the physician best suited to address your cardiac problem.
