Tortuous aorta is an irregular twist or turn of the aorta.  It is the result of high blood pressure.  A tortuous aorta can cause some obstruction and/or restriction to normal blood flow resulting in higher resistance and a heavier workload for the heart.  If there was/is a problem the heavier workload for the heart would cause the left ventricle to enlarge.
