Tripple Heart Bypass

My father who is 57 had a bypass on Thursday and only woke yesterday, he is suffering with hallusinations both visual and auditory, he is very confused and acting child-like and vulnerable which is far from is usual personality. He is aware of where he is and why he is there etc though.  Is this normal, how long will it last?? the nurses are very good but not saying very much and I very concerned.

I'm a mom to 3 also...my 45 year old husband had triple bypass one year ago.  He is exhibiting some strange behavior  fringing on obsessive.  He thinks he has moving things in his hair.  I took him to ER last night.  He bought a bottle of RID because he thought he had head lice.  We are african american so i found that hard to believe.  The RID caused him to break out in a rash.

He also started checking the girls' heads for "stuff".

He's very sharp tounged and thinks he is right about everything.  I tried to tell our oldest daughter were an event was located.  He jumped in and said fussed at me telling me I pass it on my way to work.  In 12 years I have never passed it.  My daughter came home and said it was not where he said it was.  I told her where to go and he just blew it off.

There's more but I think you get the message.  Is this normal??

I have heard of more than one situation where a patient had hallucinations after bypass or other heart surgery.  Have someone talk with your father's doctors about the medications...they may be causing the hallucinations and change in personality.  It is not at all unusual for post surgical (heart) to have a "change" in personality.  Be patient with him and make sure he understands you are all there for him.  Be sure to talk with the doctor before they release your dad.

Please keep us posted.
