Troponin and BNP levels?

Troponin and BNP levels?

Hi everyone:

Does anyone understand the reference range for Troponin of 0 to 0.05 and my result being <0.01
My cardio said nothing and I forgot to ask.

Also is it possible to have a high BNP but the left ventricular dysfunction is now normal, but still suffering with left septal wall hypokinesia, MR, mild triscupid regurgitation etc....  The BNP is high, but the LVD is now subsided.  I am thinking of another echo which will be third.  As it is costly I would like to avoid doing this.

thanks,
Kooky

I can comment a bit on the troponin.  As you probably already know, it is a marker for muscle damage, and its effects are seen longer than other markers for detecting cardiac ischemia or MI (heart attack), making it useful to detect heart damage in say, someone who waits a day to come in to the ER after chest pain.

A "normal" value is considered <.01.  My hospital lab references .01-.06 as cardiac ischemia, and anything greater than .06 as permanent cardiac damage (a heart attack), but different labs references things a bit differently.  If yours was <.01, that is normal.

What i know about BNP (B-nat peptide) is that it is a marker for CHF (congestive heart failure).  As there are other causes of CHF than just LVD, I would think possible to still be high.  I don't know that a 3rd ECHO is needed.

Hope this helps,

steph
