The area you describe, just above the belly button is where the transverse colon lies. This is a common area for constipation, where matter has built up and is hard to move. This is generally obvious by a change in bowel habits, i.e. going fewer times a week and finding it hard to go. Gentle laxatives are the usual remedy and then a change in diet to include more fibre. There is usually a build up of gas in the area which becomes trapped and causes discomfort when compressed, such as bending. There is also a possibility the colon in that area could have become twisted. We could really guess all night, so I urge you to have her examined by a Doctor.
With a total bowel obstruction you'ld have excruciating pain and throwing up because the food has no where to go but up. You would wind up in the emergency room because it is so bad you would not hesitate. It could be gall bladder, though, because that manifests itself with pain like that, but hard to diagnose.
If she has any bowel movement changes, especially difficulty having a bowel movement, topical pain like she is experiencing could be a partial obstruction. If she had a complete obstruction, she would have about 12-24 hours to get it relieved or it would be a fatal condition.
I had a partial obstruction, and my symptoms were what you report, and it became a total obstruction that led to emergency surgery. When the bowel is obstructed, organs start shutting down rather quickly.
It could also be as simple as a benign tumor or a pulled muscle, but certainly I would have her check it out immediately. Keep us informed.
If the pain feels like it's below the skin, then probably an obstruction in the intestine. It's FAR too low to be the heart. I would go to the Doctor to have it checked out.
