Upper abdominal discomfort and high diastolic bp

by realtired, Oct 08, 2005 12:00AM
I have alot of upper abdominal discomfort esp after eating but I also have emphysema. Lately my BP has been 140 t0 160 systolic and 98 to 100 diastolic. Could this mean heart problems or complication from emphysema?

Hello,

Thanks for the post.

This could many things from benign problems gastroesophageal reflux  to problems involving the gall bladder, pancreas, or possibly the heart.  You have probably already done this, but I would go to your primary care doctor and discuss your symptoms.  There are subtle ways to try and tease out what organ or organ system may be the primary culprit.

Regarding your blood pressure, it looks like you need tighter control of your blood pressure.  Unless there are contraindications (and there are not many), your blood pressure should be less than 140/90.

The moral of the story is that I can't say this is heart, lung, or GI for sure.  I hope this helps a little.  Good luck.
