Use of Glucophage and Cardiac Cath?

My question is regarding the use of Glucophage and the Cardiac Cath.

From all the information I have found it tells the patient to stop using this medication at the time of or prior to a Cardiac Cath if the Cath is scheluled.

I have been given conflicting information from 2 sources. One source tells me that the patient can not be Cath'd until at least 48 hrs after usage has stopped. My other source and the sources I have used to research this say that it should be stopped prior to a cath or just before a cath.  It says that you may proceed with the Cath but not to begin the medication until at least 48 hrs post Cath and a blood workup for Acidosis and renal function?  For that fact it also states that pre Cath if there is evidence of Acidosis or renal failure that the medication should be stopped. Will this also include not going ahead with the Cath?

Thanks in advance.

Dear rick.

In fact, both answers are right depending on renal function,  in general, we would prefer to stop the medicine 48 hours before, and resume it later (48 hours or so) in patients but the group at  greatest risk are people with abnormal kidney function.
