Hi, ths is Vanessa fm India, my 7 yr old son had a ASD & VSD both 4mm at birth, the former closed immediately, but the latter is now reduced to somethin less thn 3mm and there is trivial AR... how long do VSD's normally take to close? ths AR thing, is it serious, will the VSD close even with ths AR............PLS TELL ME, I'M REALLY VERY ANXIOUS AND WORRIED.....

Depending on the size and location, VSD (ventricular septal defects) usually close by age 2.  VSDs that do not close by age 6 may be considered for surgical closure if they are causing symptoms or abnormal blood flow through the lungs.  The AR (aortic regurgitation) is usually associated with the VSD and does not interfere with closure of the VSD.  I recommend talking with your physician regarding whether your child should have the VSD repaired.
