Dear Patricia, thank you for your question. Temporal arteritis is an inflammatory condition of the temporal artery that is not caused by a heart catheterization. The exact cause of temporal arteritis is not known, but it is thought to be caused by the body's immune system inappropriately attacking the temporal arteries as foreign tissue.
