Vasectomy

by Tom__0__0, May 19, 1998 12:00AM

Several people have told me that it is not safe for men who have had by-pass
surgery to have vasectomies.  Is this true?  If it is not true, I've promised
my wife I'll have it done

Dear Tom:
I have not heard of any specific association between bypass surgery and vasectomies.  However, before  undergoing any type of surgical procedure, people with a history of heart disease [such as those that have had bypass surgery] need to be screened for any new cardiac problems.  Your general medical doctor or cardiologist should be able to do this type of screening.

If you wish to be evaluated here at the Cleveland Clinic, please call 1-800-CCF-CARE for an appointment with a cardiologist at desk F25.  Information provided in the Heart Forum is for general purposes only.  Specific diagnoses and therapies can only be provided by your doctor.
