Ventricular Remodeling/DOR

The most recent information I have on ventricular remodeling using the Dor procedure goes back to 1998. At that time Dor was experimental and not available for patients outsided clinical trial settings. Has that changed, and what has been your experience in terms of benefit to the patient, success rate overall, etc. Might a patient who is 76 with an EF in the low to mid 20s, scarring from an MI 23 years ago, but moderately active be a possible candidate, and what might he expect in the way of improvement? As I mentioned, he is able to engage in very minimal activity, but tires extremely quickly with minimal exertion. If this procedure doesn't seem a good fit are there other possibilities. The Dor procedure is still somewhat limited but is being offered to more patients.  In this procedure the scar in the heart muscle is removed which is supposed to help with cardiac output and symptoms.  Our results have not been published but we have seen improvement in the persons undergoing this procedure.  There are other surgical and non-surgical alternatives to the Dor procedure.  Probably the best way to be evaluated for the Dor or other heart failure treatments is to come for a visit to the "Heart Failure Clinic" here in Cleveland.  You can make an appointment by calling the number below.  You will be evaluated and recommendations made based on your clinical findings and symptoms.
