Ventricular tachycardia poss. link to root canal?

by scruz, Oct 14, 2008 01:16PM
In Oct 1999 at the age of 37, I was diagnosed with V-tach after a year of increasing episodes and severity. I have been on verapamil 120 a calcium channel blocker (usually used for high blood pressure) for the last 8 years. I am a canadate for the ablation but have no health insurance.  The onset of my symptons came suddenly and I have always wondered what triggered the electrical 'short circut' in my heart.  I was drinking a lot of coffee. I had had an allergic reaction to macrobid and at the hospital had been givin an accidental over dose of a steroid. But nothing seemed to resonate in me as the cause. Yesterday my ex husband, an accupuncturist, was talking about root canals causing 'heart related' problems. It hit me... I had a root canal in 1998. I was hoping you would give me your take on this? Should I have it removed? Antiobiotics?

I had cardiac ablation in March, but the onset of afib came right after I had a root canal!!! I did not have any symptoms until November 08 last year, I had the root canal in August 08. The in Jan 09 all heck broke loose and I was hospitalizesd 3 times with tachycardia and brady-tachy syndrome. My hr would accelerate to 225. I firmly believe that these two conditions are connected. I do not know if it is the epinephrine, I rather think that the nerves that are involved in your mouth have some electrical connection to what happens with your heart rhythm. I am going to do more investigation into this. Oral health can have a huge impact on the rest of your health I have learned. Just wanted to confirm that I too had this correlation.
