Very Fast Heart Rate -- Normal??

i had a sever upper back pain yesterday and could not breathe right. perhaps a pulled muscle or pinch nerve in spine. or just a cold wind that hit it the wrong way. in either case i wound up in the E.R with really bad pain . since i said i was short of breath they gave me all sorts of tests and at one point my pulse slowly rose  up to 165 bmp stayed there for a few seconds and then went down after i started to relax. ekgs and blood and all that stuff looked normal. my question is this. is 165 normal for being nervous or scared or whatever , can it just be sinus tachycardia? or possible short term arrythmia? at what bmp does is stop being sinus tachy and turn into arrythmia??

Sorry. I meant to type.
IF it were some type of arrhythmia it would start suddenly.

I think you're probably right that it was your nerves that helped push your HR up.  It doesn't sound serious since it only lasted a few seconds.  According to wikipedia,"[t]achycardia is a form of cardiac arrhythmia which refers to a rapid beating of the heart. By convention the term refers to heart rates greater than 100 beats per minute in the adult patient. Tachycardia may be a perfectly normal physiological response to stress. However, depending on the mechanism of the tachycardia and the health status of the patient, tachycardia may be harmful, and require medical treatment."

Hope you are feeling better today.
