Very sharp but brief chest pain

I'm 38, in pretty good shape and have no know history of heart illness in my family.  I do get PVCs on and off from time to time but have been told they are benign.  I had an echo and holter done 2-3 years ago...they said I was fine.

I was 5 minutes into my treadmill run the other night when out of nowhere I felt a very sharp, piercing like pain in my chest (and I felt it in my upper right back, behind the shoulder blade too, at the exact same time, which was odd).  It was VERY fast, like less than 1 second.  It scared me but I continued to run for another 40 minutes and everything was fine.  Nothing was different that day before or after that chest pain.

Does this sound like a heart problem?  Is it possible that a PVC could cause such pain?  I've had thousands of PVCs in my life and while they are annoying never has one ever felt painful like that.  Plus I don't *think* I had a PVC during this chest pain but then again the pain was so noticeable I could have had a PVC and just not noticed it (due to the pain).

Anyway it was SCARY!  Thoughts?

Thanks,
James

Happy Holidays!

Pains that are sharp and short in duration are rarely cardiac in nature. The pain you describe sounds more like a muscle or ribcage injury. It is VERY, VERY rare for a PVC to cause pain. This really sounds like Lung or chest wall pain. What did your doctor say? You should get checked out to be safe.

Any dizziness? If not, and considering it wrapped around to your back, that sounds to me like it would be related to a nerve.
