Viral Myocarditis

I am a 35 yr male that was diagnosed with Viral myocarditis three weeks ago.  I am in the Utah Army National Guard as well as a University student.  Being new to this whole thing (and being puzzled to death with all of it) am wondering what I challenges can I expect for the near future?  I have been in and out of the hospital twice since then.  I am on Cardviavol, Naproxen, Baby Asprin, and temporarily Percocets for severe pain.
I am in good shape (as mentioned I am in the Army), but I am having constant chest pains, and get tired easily and winded easily, not to mention my wife just had a baby two weeks ago.
Can I look forward to a normal life like I once had, or am I going to always have problems? And with this, would it be considered as a disability?  Just wondering and trying to get some answers.  Thanks!

Joshua

There is no treatment that will cure a virus infection. However, for most people with viral myocarditis, the virus clears away on its own without any treatment, often within a week or so. For statistics: 33% complete recovery, 33% improve clinically, but have residual myocardial dysfunctiond, and 33% may have chronic heart failure.

Thanks for your question, and if you have any follow-up questions or comments you are welcome to respond.  Take care, and I wish you well going forward.  take c

As kenkeith stated, there is no cure, however often there is remission.

The probem may or may not result in permanent disability. For the present remain optimistic and ensure you maintain a healthy immune system.

As a National Guardsman, normally this would not be classified as a service-connected disability. Social security uses different criterion. You would (should) have to notify your unit commander and apply for a profile waiver to continue in the guard. You are mandated to reveal this diagnosis during your yearly medical.
