Vomitting after workout - Low BP

Vomitting after workout - Low BP

Hi, i'm a 22 year old female, otherwise healthy, although I do take medication for anxiety/depression.

I recently joined an aerobics class which lasts one hour. However, 10 mins in, I get very dizzy, my face becomes flush red, and I feel like vomitting. Last time I worked out I did vomit and had to stop after 10 mins.

I went to the walk in clinic right away, and the doctor said I have extremely low blood pressure. He also said to eat and drink gadorade right before my workout. I did exactly this, but the same symptoms happened again.

What could be wrong with me and how can I continue working out?

Thanks!!

There are a lot of people who may have answers, but I'd suspect your medications for anxiety are part of the issue.  I'd certainly go back to the doctor who prescribed the meds and discuss the side effects.  In the meantime I'd think it prudent to stop exercising before you get hurt.

I'm not contradicting any replies or indeed saying it isn't your medication, but what you describe is a very common thing with many people. My 17 year old son decided six months ago that after he discovered he had normal cholesterol/ blood pressure, he wanted to get fit. He kept coming home from fitness class feeling very disappointed because after just a few minutes he had to sit down feeling nauseous. I used to see this hundreds of times with new comers to our martial arts classes too. The key thing to remember is, you are not as fit as the others in the class who have been attending for a longer time. It has nothing to do with age, I've seen small kids get the same way. Eating/drinking will not make any difference, my Son tried all that. The best way to over come this is to ignore what everyone else is doing. Exercise is a unique program to you, every one is at a different level of fitness. Start off really slow and after ten minutes, speed up a bit. They 10 minutes before the end, slow down again. If you do this, each time you attend, you will find you will be able to do the fast section faster with no side effects. Over a few weeks you will find you will be able to keep up with everyone else and probably do it easier than them. Getting fit has to be a gentle progression, not hitting the body really hard. My Son followed my advice and after six sessions he could handle the exercises from beginning to end at the same speed as everyone else.
